Friends -
We've reached part four, which will be the last installment of my commentary on this book. I've finished! I've been trying to think about what I wanted to leave you all with. There's a lot left - the book covers WWII, the influence of the Civil Rights movement, modernity, and a little bit of reflection on what it means to be Indian today. All of which is interesting and informative. Like the rest of the book, I came away learning a lot of new things. Much of the last chapter of the book focuses on Standing Rock. I found that interesting for a couple of reasons. One, because it's an event I thought I remembered in great detail (spoiler alert: i did not). Two, I would think that the author would have chosen to focus on less known protests & activities. However, he did not. And I think that was intentional. I found some of his commentary on Standing Rock very interesting. I will leave you with a quote that was impactful to my reading of the text.
