I think that I have a pretty big overlap between the communities I've cultivated through Patreon/Substack and the one I've created on Instagram, but it's easy to miss things online. In 2022, I committed to trying to bring my circle practice and restorative justice efforts out of the ivory tower of higher education and into the wider community. In January 2023, I held two circle dialogues focused on social identities with interested members from my personal and online communities. I have one more of these dialogues planned for February, but I thought that the circles have gone really well so far.
I'm always amazed at the power of being in circle, even when you do that virtually. In an effort to keep with my commitment and continue to offer a space for folks to be in circle, I want to offer a space once a month for folks to come together in circle around a certain topic. In February, I want to highlight Jewish Disabilities, Awareness, Acceptance, and Inclusion Month. I don't see a lot of folks in online spaces talk about this month, which is not very surprising, because ableism is rampant in society. To participate in this circle, you don't have to be Jewish or Disabled, but I will give priority to those who are disabled and Jewish. The conversation will also center disabled Jewish perspectives.
